Researcher Toolkit
Senior Design

Georgia Tech has long recognized the benefits of student design courses for the training of its undergraduate students. The Office of Technology Licensing can help students work through any intellectual property (IP) issues.

An innovation developed during a student’s participation in a design course does not necessarily require assignment of the IP rights to Georgia Tech Research Corporation.

Under Georgia Tech’s IP policy, a student’s innovation will likely be deemed as an individual effort provided that conception and/or reduction to practice of the invention did not result from:

  • Work performed under a sponsored research agreement
  • Significant use of Georgia Tech resources
  • Duties assigned to the student as an employee of Georgia Tech

Involvement of an industry collaborator or use of a company’s proprietary information may require Georgia Tech Research Corp. (or the company) to assert certain rights in the resulting IP.
